Lean In: Women in Leadership Conference
The second annual event, put on by Greater Ottumwa Partners In Progress, is scheduled for March 8 at the Bridge View Center in Ottumwa. The conference is primarily for women, and using their empowerment in leadership positions to pass down to future generations. The conference intentionally falls on International Women’ s Day. Lemonade Day
This no-cost experimental program teaches youth how to start, own and operate their own business with a lemonade stand. Students in grades 3-5 in both the Ottumwa and Cardinal school districts are invited to participate in order to learn business skills, responsibility, financial literacy, goal setting and teamwork while working with a local mentor. This three-day book sale is a partnership between the Friends of the Ottumwa Library, Bridge View Center and Meet Ottumwa. This year’ s event is scheduled for early May. Donations are taken for the event weeks in advance, and the sale offers books, CDs, DVDs, LPs,
board games, puzzles and sheet music.

Spring Shop About
Businesses in Wapello, Davis, Van Buren and Appanoose counties will be participating in this event starting in early May, which is sponsored by the Historic Hills Scenic Byway, which travels through all four counties. The American Gothic House Center’ s gift shop is one of the featured businesses, and maps and brochures will be available at the gift shop.

Tulip Time
Discover Iowa’ s Dutch heritage during Pella’ s annual Tulip Time Festival is held in the first weekend of May. Thousands of visitors make a special trip to the Tulip City each year to admire blooming tulips and Dutch architecture, indulge in Dutch foods and learn the city’ s unique history. Locals dress in beautiful Dutch costumes and give tours at the Pella Historical Society and Museums.

Wapello County Car Guys’ Car Show
The event will be held in May in Ottumwa Park, and will feature live music, food, vendors, a swap meet and plenty of vintage cars. There is a $ 10 registration fee with proceeds going to the Wapello County Veterans Association.
