For more information, contact Main Street Ottumwa. 36. holiDAy TrEE liGhTinG/ liGhTS oF lovE 33. hAlloWEEn hikES Join Pioneer Ridge Nature Center for a fun and educational outdoor experience from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 9-10. The hikes feature volunteers dressed in costumes to educate children about the natural world around them. There is a different theme each year, with this year’s yet to be determined. A lighted path leads hikers from actor to actor at the nature center south of Ottumwa. Hot chocolate, snacks and games are hosted indoors after the hike. The Wapello County Conservation Board will begin taking reservations Sept. 29. For more information, visit conservation.wapellocounty.org. 34. hiSTory WAlkS The annual History Walks of Downtown Ottumwa, hosted by Main Street Ottumwa, feature a different theme each year. This year’s event includes three properties in the Main Street District with times available from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 16, 23 and 30 with volunteer actors presenting facts about Ottumwa’s history. For more information, contact Main Street Ottumwa. This moving ceremony is traditionally held the Friday after Thanksgiving. Dozens of trees, often sponsored in memory of lost loved ones, in the Lights of Love display are lit one by one as dedications are read. Other trees are sponsored by businesses and other donors to offer financial support to the Main Street Ottumwa program. The ceremony concludes with the lighting of the big tree on the amphitheater stage. This year’s ceremony is set for 5-6:30 p.m. Nov. 27.
