The
BEAT
Changing the Face of Cosmetics
Social media has played a major part in the way we perceive and wear makeup today. Even the commonly used lingo
for beautiful makeup did not even exist six years ago: on fleek, slay, beat face, face beat to the gawds, and any variations
of the phrase. After billions of social media posts, shares, and photos of makeup artistry being exchanged, 101 Magazine has come up with an overlying trend and brand that is modern day makeup.
Monetizing Makeup
Kits upon kits upon kits! From Kylie Jenner’s infamous
lip kit to Queen Latifah’s QUEEN collection and the
array of celebs who have been Covergirls, it is needless
to say that makeup is a multi-million dollar industry.
Makeup has even been lucrative for everyday people
turn youtubers. A few video tutorials, a blog featuring
your beat face, coupled with some awesome branding,
and the money rolls in! A living, shining example is
James Charles, a senior in high school, who did makeup on social media and was just named the first male
Covergirl. It is evident that when it comes to the makeup industry, the opportunities are endless.
