100 BARS MAGAZINE 011 JUL/AUG 2014 | Page 30

HA Double: Listen, first people were talking about how poor my performance was and how they weren’t feeling my bars, but then the battle drops and it’s now at 150,000 views. I’m just saying the numbers speak for themselves. Eve: I know it’s a touchy subject for a battler to discuss, but on AngryFans Radio in April you said you “got frustrated and stopped” during your battle versus Sno. What exactly happened? on freestyling my s**t. Eve: You’ve had a lot of battles in a few years. How do you approach each battle and how do you feel about personals? Is anyone off limits? HA Double: Mostly, I create bars off the top. Personals are OK if they aren’t about your personal life. Like, talking about my baby; I don’t like that s**t. And I’ll take whoever they give me. Honestly, anyone can get it. HA Double: The day before the event, I completely forgot my second round and basically had to come up with something right before the battle. That is why you see me stumbling in my second round. The frustration caused me to stop in my third. I felt like if I said that right after the battle it would seem like I was making an excuse for taking the loss. So I just kept it to myself and let people think what they wanted. Eve: You said battle rap is becoming all about the money, so I can assume you’re in it for the long haul. Can I ask what your 5 year battle rap plan is? Eve: So your next battle is with Ah Di Boom and during your radio interview you said that you’re going to “step it up”. What does that mean and what can we expect to see from you? Freestyles? Eve: So a bit off-topic, but whether it’s through social media or text I find you connected to the slogan, “#wellwell”. What does that mean? HA Double: I chose Boom next because I believe his presence and energy is going to make me step it up to the next level. Boom is nice, but for some reason he doesn’t get the credit he deserves for anything he does. If I can add a freestyle off of the top I will use it, but I don’t focus 30 HA Double: I have had roughly 12 battles from 2011 to 2013. I made it to BET in under 3 years and I have the support of both my family and city. So I mean, if I can get to a point to where they’re paying me enough to live, I’d make it my full time career. HA Double: To be honest, it’s a catchphrase I used on various social media groups. Then it became popular and just stuck. Eve: Before I go, is there anything that you think old and new fans might not know about you? HA Double: Well one thing a lot of people don’t know about my battle rap career is that Anubis  wasn’t my first main stage battle. I battled in St. Louis at the Missouri Word War battle event hosted by Smack. It was the same URL card that Aye Verb battled Arsonal on. They never put out the footage because the there was a malfunction with the audio. — Eve
