100 BARS MAGAZINE 011 JUL/AUG 2014 | Page 16

Hop awards. Fans would hate to see this event become another Total Slaughter where there are no classic battles from the event. Who do you think is going to be most responsible for this event being a classic and what is some advice that you can give the battle rappers that are on that card? What advice would you give to the producers of this event and what is a good formula to keep the fans happy? Owe: I’m totally aware of the Gladiator School event. I’m attending on the strength of support for B-m****rf**kingMagic. (Owe laughs) The cameras, lights and sound are important, but the action depends on the two emcees in the ring. There’s no keeping the fans happy. AndtwonDaDon: Do you know what matchups are on that card? Owe: From what I hear, the matchups are ”Phara Funeral vs. Couture”, “E Hart vs. O’fficial”, “Chayna Ashley vs. Ms. Murk”, “B Magic vs. Young B”, “T-Rex vs. Rum Nitty” and “Hitman Holla vs. Calicoe”. AndtwonDaDon: Speaking of battle rappers hitting mainstream, Cassidy is taking Dizaster and there is hype around a possible “Drake vs. Murda Mook” battle. We’ve seen “Joe Budden vs. Hollow Da Don”. Keith Murray and Fredro Starr are battling here in Atlanta. What are your thoughts? 16 Owe: The “industry emcee versus battle emcee” [scenario] hasn’t fared well for the industry artists. They get  f**ked up everytime they step in the ring. Im hoping that Cassidy can show up and be the Cassidy that molded most of today’s battle emcees. He’s rumored to be receiving a quarter-million for this bout. AndtwonDaDon: Wasn’t Cassidy supposed to battle years back — what happened to that? Owe: I don’t remember that, but I do remember booking him to host one of my events in St. Louis and his manager ran off with the deposit. AndtwonDaDon: There are a lot of female-versus-male battles occurring; 40 B.A.R.R.S had Daylyt a few months back and then she just had Cortez. “C3 vs. Lotta Zay” was a fire battle and C3 is scheduled to battle Ah Di Boom. Rumor has it that Ms.Hustle is taking Big Kannon. I hear all the time from the women that they want to be respected, because they feel like they are just as good as the males. Do you feel that these Adam-and-Eve cards are respected and does it really boost an artist? Owe: Honestly, I haven’t watched too many Adam-andEve battles. I do think some people respect it, but overall I would say no. I just feel like the girl is going to look 10 times better going against a male. AndtwonDaDon: I think its safe to say that you are responsible for some of the success of our favorite battle rappers. So out of all of the new battle rappers that are coming up, what guy and girl do you see has the potential to be a star and what advice would you give to each? Owe: Young X, all day. I would say O’fficial for the females is nice. My advice would be to choose their battles wisely. AndtwonDaDon: So even though you been sitting back, can we expect any productions from you in the upcoming future and where can we find you? Are you on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook? Owe: I’m always on Facebook — “Owe”. Twitter, not so much, @ streetstatusdvd. Instagram at s
