PHOTO COURTESY OF BET.COM understand the business side and battlers have demands — they should be met — but we also have to remember what the essence of the spirit of competition is as well. So in essence, larger exposure should be met with even more hunger and more opportunities to showcase what battling is truly about — the streets and the people therein. What is your take on the popup leagues? Do you think they hurt the game by taking marquee battles away from more-established leagues or is the competition making for better cards? 14 I have no huge issue with popup leagues. My concern with them is, if you’re going to book a marquee match, invest your time and efforts in that match and make a classic — not a onerounder or a two-minute battle. Not to keep going back to URL, but the three-minute clock was great, fast paced and on point. I don’t know if better cards are being produced. If it was up to me, I’d focus my attention on two events a year — three, max. Make it a spectacle to behold. Create dialogue; build-ups; face-offs; ciphers; diss videos; blogs. We all love lyrics, but drama is what brings everyone together for anything. Common fact. By adding a storyline to a battle, you now create a different demand, as opposed to just having two emcees battle.
