100 BARS MAGAZINE 004 Dec/Jan 2013-2014 | Page 85

This January, in 2014 on the 24th & 25th in Toronto Canada there will be a Blackout on the King of The Dot (KOTD) stage. Their 4th one to be exact, and during this event there will be 18 exciting mysterious grudge matches between various soldiers on the rap battlefield. Out of all the verbal assault match ups that will occur that weekend, the most highly anticipated one will be for the KOTD title shot. The two gladiators that will enter this coliseum for a battle that will lead to the KOTD title will be Pat Stay VS Dizaster. It will be the Centaur vs. The Bar Bearing Barbarian. I actually had the chance to converse with one of these two highly recognized and skilled battlers. Who might that be? Dizaster. I had the opportunity to discuss his upcoming battle With Pat Stay, his views on the current state of battle rap, how he got into his rap battle career, the turns it has taken, and where it will possibly end up. I inquired and he answered, here is what Diz had to say: Novie Blendz: So, it’s great to get to speak with you, shall we get started? Dizaster: Yeah Novie Blendz: So you have an upcoming battle with Pat Stay for the KOTD Title. What are your initial thoughts? Dizaster: Well me and this guy are definitely going to be like the Lux vs. Hollow battle but on the other side of the spectrum. It will be like the Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather of the different styles of battling that we have. It’s like the same battle happening on the same weekend its really crazy. The best part about it is, I feel like me and Hollow are going to win and were going to battle after that. Novie Blendz: Oh , So you want to battle Hollow Da Don? Dizaster: Well yeah, like me and Hollow haven’t really announced it yet or anything but to be honest with you it’s always been a thought, Like we haven’t been all verbose about it. I mean we both want to get the best out of the battle, so it’s pretty interesting that these two battles are happening around the same time. Yeah he’s gonna beat Lux and I’m gonna beat Pat and get the Chain and that shits just gonna be crazy. Novie Blendz: Well everybody – myself included- feels like when you write for your battles “its sick its crazy”. How do you feel about that statement? Dizaster: (lol) It’s not even fair when I write (lol). Because I don’t do what other rappers do, I don’t sit down and Fucking formulate for thousands of hours, like I really am an Emcee when it comes to this. Like none of these other battlers that you see, can do what I do. There’s maybe two or three other people maybe, but they can’t do exactly like I do. Basically, dizaster Cover Story even if you just ambush me like I will bar you out for like 3 rounds it doesn’t even matter. I’m not talking general shit and throw a ways, everybody has that. But I have really crazy shit in my head formulated, so even if someone comes at me like that I can pull shit out of thin air about them, and I mean it will be direct. Just Like my battle with Cortez, me vs. Cortez was freestyle vs. Written. Novie Blendz: I’ve seen that battle. I definitely have seen that battle. Dizaster: And you know I lost that battle. I don’t think that I won, but at the end of the day I walk away from battles like that feeling happy. That’s because I feel like it was a good match. I didn’t feel like I completely lost. I know in my heart I’ve just held up with material out of thin air against a top tier dude who wrote all his shit a month in advance. Just as that saying goes,” you look at the cup as if it’s half full or half empty”. I look at the cup as If it’s half full. So yeah that’s juts pretty much it about that. But the format that I am the most dangerous in is the same format in which I battled DNA, Cannibus , and Swave Sevah. You see if I freestyle half of my shit, then you’re not gonna get any of my writtens. It’s like your not battling the best of me, your battling what I feel like giving you at the time. People criticize me for it, but that’s okay. When you get into a position in which you’re always in the spotlight, people want to do that to you, but I’m okay with it because it’s helping me get better. 82
