Dana: So first question. where you from? BK Fynest: Canarsie Brooklyn Dana: Where did you get your name from? BK Fynest: Jayz n Biggie are ma fav rappers...they’re the original Brooklyn’s Finest. They’re my biggest inspiration. Dana: So they got you into making music? Are they what inspired you to start making music? BK Fynest: Yes I always been into hip hop though. That’s ma 1st love Dana: How do you feel about the state of hip hop today? BK Fynest: I respect where it’s @ now...i mean, it’s nothing like the classics but i appreciate all artist & everyone involved that keeps it going! Dana: Do you think it will ever get back to competitive lyricism BK Fynest: If they shed light on the right artist it can! Nowadays artist don’t rap about REAL LIFE situations so it kind of put limitations on the talent. .everybody isn’t rich fly or gangsta n even then it’s a person story that interest me even more than the lyrics sometimes Dana: How did you get into battle rap? Bk Fynest: I was selling ma HBIC mixtapes w Hood Barbie one day in East New York & Clark Ceaser supported the movement... a few days after hearing the talent he hit me to perform in a cypher @ the Brooklyn mic club...Took him about a year to talk me into a battle long story short i finally agreed now here i am. Dana: Were you a fan of battle rap before that? Bk Fynest: To be honest NO... I didn’t look @ battle rappers as being famous or getting the $ the commercial artist get...but i definitely grew to respect the wave after being involved with the culture Dana: Have you battled at all before being involved in the culture? Bk Fynest: Nah not at all..i did battle myself on a track though lol its was Raw Deal vs Bklynz Fynest. Raw Deal was ma rap name in the 90’s but that shit got wack then when i started taking things more serious i came up with an official name #BF OFF TOPIC...that’s why i don’t sound like the other battle rappers u can tell I’m in my own world. Some say its wack but i disagree i just dare to be different they might say i lost every battle i have because i don’t have the same format as the other ladies Dana: Yes, you definitely have a unique style because of your lack of influence. What gave you the idea to use sound effects? bk fynest rising star Bk Fynest: I just like to be animated sometime nothing wrong with having fun. On ma mixtape i was a radio host a caller, a gangsta outta town bitch a freaky girl n many more plus i wanted to combine studio style w battle rapping Dana: How has the battle rap community been treating you? Bk Fynest: It’s been a rough road so far due to the fact I’m different from the other ladies but I do love the new fans I have gained from battle rapping Dana: I noticed in your battles that you have a hard delivery but your bars tend to be light hearted and comical, was that intentional? Bk Fynest: Nah not at all but i do try to be entertaining though. A few battles i have seen have nothing but bars but to me they’re boring as fuck...I want to enjoy my footage when I’m watching Dana: You’re definitely entertaining to watch. I can appreciate that you don’t take yourself that seriously and don’t mind poking fun at yourself. Who do you enjoy watching in battle rap and who would you like the opportunity to face? Bk Fynest: Thanks...I def appreciate Ms. Fit i think she’s dope & i like Big T too..i want to face all the top tier females who think the sparring session ladies won’t put em on their a$$...it’s all love though
