Female battle rap is at a height that most anticipated would never reach. There is nothing more beautiful than a female who could express her concerns, strengths, and morals through rhyming and flows. The rush of performing in front of a crowd and having them cheer and linger on every word you say is a climax most will never feel or understand. This movement is just one of many events in female history where the women surpass the expectations of what we’re capable of. But through all the hype and limelight lies a conspiracy that recently has surfaced among the female battlers even though it was always under suspicion. This conspiracy is females having “Ghost writers” write all their material for their battles. GHOST WRITERS I believe if you can’t write your own material there is no reason for you to be battling. Females have way more to prove than these men and any minor situation can set us back 10 steps. There are plenty of girls out there who can and do write jaw dropping bars that will make you second guess your thoughts on how mediocre female battle rap is, if you feel that way. Ghost writing only takes away from the sport and takes away limelight from the ones that spend sleepless nights coming up with bars that will solidify their spot in the battle world. Let’s keep it pure on our end ladies. Practice on writing until you reach your comfort zone. Consistency only makes you better. Never allow someone else to take credit on your own talent in any way shape or form. ~ Shanae Ami “Ghost Writers,” are people who write rhymes for artist who cannot or do not write their own material for these battles. As of now the female emcees are under the magnifying glass with the exposure of one specific female battler whom was sky rocketing to the top at a very fast an easy pace. Does this set female back? My personal answer yes because it’s already hard for us to looked at as lyricists instead of sexpots to the masses, now we must prove ourselves as being just as good our male peers when it comes to writing bars. It saddens me knowing that females who actually display the qualities of being “bar heavy” are now second guessed for the complexity of their material. 64
