100 bulletz
international bars
100 Bars: Where did the name 100
Bulletz stem from?
100 Bulletz: A graphic novel, 100
Bullets. In each issue, someone
is given the opportunity to take
revenge when given a handgun, 100
bullets, and documentation about the
target. They are also told the bullets
are completely untraceable. They
basically, can get away with murder
if they chose. I feel battle rap is like
that most of the time. You got a
target, information and you take your
best shot (lyrically) to destroy them
without fear of repercussion. Unless
Marc Doubt is in the building.
100 Bars: What inspirations did
you have growing up?
100 Bulletz: I was all music as a kid.
Bands, rappers, instrumentalists.
Too many to list. But my whole life
has centered around music. I been
in music since I was three. I used
to teach music and can still to this
day. I can play almost any Western
instrument with strings.
100 Bars: What got you interested
in Battle Rap?
100 Bulletz: I been watching battle
rap since Jin was going back and
forth with Bishop Brigante, Smack
DVD’s and even before that. Being
from Windsor, Ontario, I was
battling in small local tourneys as
early as 1999. Battling was huge in
Detroit and it kinda trickled over
the boarder. But my freestyle game
was never good enough to take it
serious. It wasn’t until almost 2010
that I heard about KOTD and what
the URL had become over the years.
And writing always been my favorite
aspect of hip hop.
100 Bars: When did you decide to
take it seriously?
100 Bulletz: I’m a real entrepreneurial
type. As soon as I saw what battling
had become, I started a website
called, “GotRaps.com.” It was kinda
like 2 YouTube videos on one page.
Each emcee would prewrite 3 verses
and upload to the side. The viewers
could vote and comment on the
battles. I was trying to put together a
tourney and nobody big was joining.
So, I decided to jump in a few battles.
I figured, if I was dope, rappers
would be more likely to join and not
ignore my posts online. It worked.
After a few battles, the tourney went
well. But then the Webmaster kinda
let it fall apart. At the same time, I
was building a resume. I stuck with
battling and R.I.P. to the website.
