100 Bars: Where are you from? Danja Zone: Born in DC...raised in PG County, MD (where I currently reside) and in GA as well. told it’s a bit unorthodox. It’s a bit intricate and complex. Very lyrical. My cadence and flow changes often as well. 100 Bars: Where does your name come from? Danja Zone: I used to go by Young Danja in high school until I reached college and a friend of mine used to call me Danja Zone... Then I just ran with that. 100 Bars: Where did the idea to use different accents come from? Danja Zone: Lol! I actually had a roommate in college that was from around Czech Republic and his accent was very similar to Russian which inspired my scheme against Ill Will. 100 Bars: What got you interested in Hip Hop? Danja Zone: My pops exposed me to it growing up and my older brother rapped so that’s what got me interested.. 100 Bars: Do you remember your first Rhyme? Danja Zone: Lol! No I don’t...I wish. 100 Bars: What’s the Hip Hop scene like in Maryland? Danja Zone: There’s a lot of local artists...s/o Lil Tae and So Swagg in Baltimore and Bar Cardy...In DC and PG I mostly just know Wale outside of various GO-GO bands. 100 Bars: Who is your favorite rapper? Danja Zone: I got to say Jay-Z overall. He’s just that nigga...What more can I say? Pun intended. 100 Bars: How would you describe your style of rhyming? Danja Zone: Great question and difficult to answer. I’ve been 100 Bars: Do you prefer making songs or battling? Danja Zone: I haven’t made much music lately to be honest so I have to say battling. I’ve always loved battling and been a fan of it for years. 100 Bars: How do you feel about mainstream music not focusing too much on lyrics and does that impact you as a battle rapper/artist? Danja Zone: Everything has its purpose. That type of music is successful right now evidently because people like it...I enjoy it too under the right circumstances. That’s where we step in though with battles and/or music to keep the balance. 100 Bars: How long have you been watching battles? Which was the first battle you watched that made you realize that this is something that you wanted to do? Danja Zone: I’ve been watching danja zone rising star battles for years...BLAZE battles, Eminem, Canibus, etc. I can’t remember the first battle I saw though but I feel as though I’ve seen them all or most at least. 100 Bars: When was your first battle? Danja Zone: I used to battle in the early 2000’s but in this era I tried out for GRIND TIME DMV in April of 2011. 100 Bars: Some folks may not know that Nuff Said is your brother. Have you and your brother ever battled? Danja Zone: Naw not seriously. 100 Bars: When you battled Rod on Pit Fights was that you’re first on camera battle? Danja Zone: No. My first Pit Fight battle was against Young B-More...I tried out for GrindTime DMV before that. 100 Bars: How did you get to battle on Pit Fights?? Danja Zone: Rod is part of MBK (My Brother’s Keeper) now btw... Shaka Pitts, owner of Pit Fights, used to work closely with Paradoxx and Maestro who ran GTDMV. I asked him if he would let me battle in his league and he gave me that opportunity. The rest is history 100 Bars: At what battle did you feel most comfortable with battling? Sometimes people can be nervous there first time. Danja Zone: After my first battle, I’ve felt the same for the most part. I feel nervous and anxious until I spit that first bar...Then I zone out 34
