100 Bars: Where are you from?
Danja Zone: Born in DC...raised
in PG County, MD (where I
currently reside) and in GA as well.
told it’s a bit unorthodox. It’s a
bit intricate and complex. Very
lyrical. My cadence and flow
changes often as well.
100 Bars: Where does your name
come from?
Danja Zone: I used to go by
Young Danja in high school until
I reached college and a friend of
mine used to call me Danja Zone...
Then I just ran with that.
100 Bars: Where did the idea to
use different accents come from?
Danja Zone: Lol! I actually had
a roommate in college that was
from around Czech Republic
and his accent was very similar
to Russian which inspired my
scheme against Ill Will.
100 Bars: What got you
interested in Hip Hop?
Danja Zone: My pops exposed
me to it growing up and my older
brother rapped so that’s what got
me interested..
100 Bars: Do you remember your
first Rhyme?
Danja Zone: Lol! No I don’t...I
wish.
100 Bars: What’s the Hip Hop
scene like in Maryland?
Danja Zone: There’s a lot of local
artists...s/o Lil Tae and So Swagg in
Baltimore and Bar Cardy...In DC
and PG I mostly just know Wale
outside of various GO-GO bands.
100 Bars: Who is your favorite
rapper?
Danja Zone: I got to say Jay-Z
overall. He’s just that nigga...What
more can I say? Pun intended.
100 Bars: How would you
describe your style of rhyming?
Danja Zone: Great question
and difficult to answer. I’ve been
100 Bars: Do you prefer making
songs or battling?
Danja Zone: I haven’t made much
music lately to be honest so I have
to say battling. I’ve always loved
battling and been a fan of it for
years.
100 Bars: How do you feel
about mainstream music not
focusing too much on lyrics and
does that impact you as a battle
rapper/artist?
Danja Zone: Everything has its
purpose. That type of music is
successful right now evidently
because people like it...I enjoy it
too under the right circumstances.
That’s where we step in though
with battles and/or music to keep
the balance.
100 Bars: How long have you
been watching battles? Which
was the first battle you watched
that made you realize that this
is something that you wanted to
do?
Danja Zone: I’ve been watching
danja zone
rising star
battles for years...BLAZE battles,
Eminem, Canibus, etc. I can’t
remember the first battle I saw
though but I feel as though I’ve
seen them all or most at least.
100 Bars: When was your first
battle?
Danja Zone: I used to battle in the
early 2000’s but in this era I tried
out for GRIND TIME DMV in
April of 2011.
100 Bars: Some folks may not
know that Nuff Said is your
brother. Have you and your
brother ever battled?
Danja Zone: Naw not seriously.
100 Bars: When you battled Rod
on Pit Fights was that you’re first
on camera battle?
Danja Zone: No. My first
Pit Fight battle was against
Young B-More...I tried out for
GrindTime DMV before that.
100 Bars: How did you get to
battle on Pit Fights??
Danja Zone: Rod is part of MBK
(My Brother’s Keeper) now btw...
Shaka Pitts, owner of Pit Fights,
used to work closely with Paradoxx
and Maestro who ran GTDMV. I
asked him if he would let me battle
in his league and he gave me that
opportunity. The rest is history
100 Bars: At what battle did
you feel most comfortable with
battling? Sometimes people can
be nervous there first time.
Danja Zone: After my first battle,
I’ve felt the same for the most part.
I feel nervous and anxious until I
spit that first bar...Then I zone out
