While the longevity of GMP Metals in Humboldt is impressive enough, even more impressive is the company they keep. Yes, GMP is one of four manufacturers in Humboldt that have been in operation here for at least 50 years. Bob Haley, Plant Manager at GMP Metal Products Jones Companies began it’s operation in 1936. Con-Agra (J. Hungerford Smith) opened its plant here THE VINE in 1957, and RockTenn (formerly Alton Box and Jefferson Smurfitt) opened its Humboldt facility in 1959. In the ever-changing world of manufacturing, having these industries in Humboldt for five decades is truly a testament to the quality of our community and the companies that make their home here. Take a minute to thank the employees of GMP Metal Products and all these industries for their dedication. They’re truly a feather in the cap for Humboldt industry. The new site allows a lot more editing and content management functionality to the staff here at the Chamber, and can be expanded as the need arises. The end result will be a website that stays up-todate, has more relevant content, and is more user-friendly both to the editors and visitors. The new site is also designed to be more usable on mobile devices! There is still plenty of content editing to take place, but we are exci ted about the possibilities and look forward to having a better tool to serve our membership and this community!
