On an ending note he shared that do not fret over what employers are looking for, since it’s their responsibility to decide if they want you or not. Keep moving forward, he said and took a seat. The next speaker took stage and introduced himself briefly. He appreciated us business majors for saying that we are indeed an enduring and adept bunch. He said it takes agility and strength of character to be able to be in such dynamic times of our history and economy. He encouraged us students to be hopeful; we are the future and we determine how we shape it. He wished to be as young and fervent as us since we had the ability to take risks, make mistakes, shake the dust off and rise again with new aspirations. Continuing further, he asked us to acknowledge our strengths and weaknesses; leaders know what they want and how they want it. We students should put our vision, passions and ambitions into perspective. The worst thing that could happen to us is that we may not be able to achieve what we had aspired for, such as landing that internship or job. As ironic as that may sound, what matters most is the journey of going through it all. It is so crucial to develop a sense of persistence and positivity that only comes by being rejected and having doors shut. Success knocks on your door only when we understand that it takes being able to nurture our passions and continue to strive no matter how strenuous the journey. On an ending note he hinted at viewing the glass half full rather than half empty and ended the presentation. To be completely honest, I was blown away with the presentation. I felt like a brand new me, full of positivity. Everything the speakers shared made complete sense to me. After all the fretting over not landing that job or internship, I realized I had to change the way I looked at those opportunities. I had to completely revamp my resume and cover letter. Moreover, I needed to completely research the companies before I applied to them and their respective positions. In addition, I had to question whether I really wanted a particular position or not. I had to build my network and suit it to my needs to land me that particular position that I am eyeing for so long. Last but not the least; go into each and every interview not with fear but with beaming enthusiasm and persistence to succeed. I forgot to mention the last bit, enjoy the journey and keep striving!
