1 - Introduction - Living like a real Christian The Colours of Grace - Week 2 | Page 9

Firstly: we hide God’s Word in our heart because the devil is out there and he wants to steal it. Jesus told the parable of the sower and the seed (Matthew 13) and He spoke about the seed that fell on the path that the ravens came and stole. This is a good picture of what Satan wants to do as it relates God’s Word to us. He would want to steal it, distract us from it and deprive us of it. Therefore, we need to hold onto the Word of God, memorise it and assimilate it into our daily thinking. Secondly: I am sure you will agree that life can be a complex thing. You could picture your life of being made of many different compartments. Into each of these compartments should be placed an aspect of the Word of God what relates to that particular compartments. The overall picture is that of hiding God’s Word and memorising a Bible verse that would be compatible with each compartment. For example: when you are tempted to open the compartment of anger, unforgiveness or pessimism, you open that compartment only to find that there is a great Bible verse that teaches you to deal with the issue at hand. I know that for some this may sound somewhat childlike, but think about it for a moment: if we were to intentionally begin to memorise Scripture as it relates to every aspect of our lives, and when that aspect of our lives becomes a reality, the first thing that comes to mind is a Bible verse applicable to it. This surely must go a long way in helping us to overcome the issue at hand. There is some great literature out there that can help you in this regard. I know it will take time and effort, but at the end of the day, this is what hiding God’s Word in your heart is all about. As we conclude this week, I would like to say to those who are presently going through times of suffering; our prayers are with you and we trust that the peace of God which passes all understanding will keep your heart and mind in the knowledge and love of our Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 4 v 7). See you in church.
