1 - Introduction - Living like a real Christian LOVE | Page 2

Hello Everyone, Last week the subject of our devotionals was an introduction to the “Fruit of the Spirit”. We ended speaking about the supernatural nature of the Holy Spirit’s work. I would like to pick up from there by saying that if we really believe this then the supernatural work of God in our lives should be natural. Jesus, so many times, affirms His presence in our lives and assures us that because he dwells in us He is more than able to live out His life through us. 2 Corinthians 4 v 7 speaks of the Holy Spirit as being a “Treasure” that God places in “jars of clay” (us); he then explains that this is God’s un-surpassing power. Another verse that confirms this is 2 Peter 1 v 3 where Peter states that it is the power of God that has been given to us that is everything that we need for life and for Godly living. According to Revelation 3 v 20 where Jesus is pictured as One who “stands at the door and knocks”, He says that he who opens the door and allows Him in, that He will sup with him.By implication this means that when you openthe door of your life to Christ, He moves in! Therefore, on the basis of this we believe that we can do everything that Christ commands us to do because of the indwelling power of His Spirit in our lives. It is difficult to explain this mystical union between God and us, but I guess it could be pictured in the sense that the relationship between God and ourselves is not like the mixture between sand and water, where if you put sand and water together, shake it vigorously it will look like you have something, but when you let it stand all you have, again, is sand and water. The union between God and us, however, is more like a cup of tea, where if you infuse the tea into the water, then the tea and the water become inseparable no matter how long you leave it to stand. A religious person’s life would be similar to the first picture of sand and water, when shaken together they look like they may be the real deal only to find that after time the separation is noticeable as they return to their original forms, whereas a person whose life is infused with Christ becomes a life flavoured and in its essence it has been changed. I hope that as we consider this week the Fruit of LOVE that this principle will become the foundation upon which we will build our thesis for the week. God Bless Trevor and Helene
