1 - Introduction - Living like a real Christian Hezekiah Prayer | Page 3

Hi Everyone This last Sunday we considered the prayer prayed by King Hezekiah (in 2 Kings 19 v 14 – 19). The story actually begins in chapter 18 where Hezekiah’s character and commitment to God is established. He ruled at a particularly ungodly period in history. He succeeded many debauched and corrupted kings. His love for God led him to lead the nation of Judah into many spiritual reforms; the idols were all smashed and temple worship was reinstated. The story is fascinating. After ruling for a number of years in peace, he received a letter from the king of Assyria. This particular king was on a mission to take over the world – he systematically worked his way through all the territories of Judah, capturing every town and city in his path. The letter he wrote to Hezekiah told him that he, Hezekiah, in Jerusalem, was next on his “hit” list. Hezekiah’s response was so notable in that he took the Assyrian king’s letter into the temple and laid it before the Lord (2 Kings 19 v 14). He then prays the most incredible prayer… 2 Kings 19 v 14 – 19: “O Lord, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Give ear, O Lord, and hear; open your eyes, O Lord, and see; listen to the words Sennacherib has sent to insult the living God. “It is true, O Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands. They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by men’s hands. Now, O Lord our God, deliver us from his hands, so that all kingdoms on earth may know that you alone, O Lord, are God.” It is this great prayer that I would like for us, this week, to consider. It will help us answer the question: “WHAT do you do when you don’t know what to do?” I sincerely hope and pray that maybe for those of you at Norwegian Settlers Church who are presently asking the above question, that this will be of help to you, and for those who aren’t presently asking this question, that you will put this in your memory bank and save it for a time that you might just need it! God bless Trevor and Helene
