1 - Introduction - Living like a real Christian GOODNESS | Page 2

Hi everyone, In our journey through the different aspects of the Fruit of the Spirit that we find in Galatians 5, we come this week to the subject of GOODNESS. I am hoping, as a result of our devotions this week, to have painted for you a beautiful picture of what goodness looks like. It is difficult to define “goodness”, but you know that it exists because you can see its result. When goodness is shown there is always a better situation left behind. It seems amazing in the world in which we live that greatness is elevated beyond goodness. We see authors writing books, seeking to move people from being good to being great, and even in our own English language, we suggest that there is a progression in life the leads from good to better to best. As much as I acknowledge the merit in what these writers are suggesting, I would, however, like to reaffirm the foundational value that God sees in simply being GOOD. I will be making a number of statements over the course of this next week and each devotional will be written in an endeavour to substantiate the statement that I have made. I hope that this will inspire us to a greater degree of goodness in our own personal lives. Please, however, always remember that we are talking here about the Fruit of the Spirit and that there can be no fruit without us ABIDING IN THE VINE. No measure of self-effort, or self-discipline on our part, will lead us to the fruit that we desire; it is simply born out of a close relationship with Jesus and that fruit is then simply the evidence of this relationship. God Bless you Trevor and Helene
