Hello everyone Let me welcome you to our new theme: 7 PRAYERS THAT MOVED THE HAND OF GOD. I feel at this particular point in our church’s life that this theme, for a number of reasons, is particularly timeous. The greatest reason I say this is that all too often, in our activities and in our desire to do ministry better, we can so easily leave God behind. Periodically it is good for us as individuals, and for us as a church, to take our spiritual “temperatures”. It is so easy for us to get overwhelmed with all the different aspects of church that we forget the reason for which we do it. This particular series goes very much in the face of self-reliance and self-dependence. It confronts the ideology of excellence and doing things better and, I guess, in a nutshell, it is a series that unapologetically declares our need of God. In John 15 v 5 Jesus says, “Without me [Jesus] you can do nothing.” Maybe we as individuals, and as a church, need to wake up to see just how much “nothing” we spend our lives doing. On Sunday I played for you a magnificent hymn which so beautifully sets the scene for us and establishes a foundation on which to build this series. The hymnis entitled “I need thee every hour.” You can watch this video on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3wSbLa2uGgand I would urge you to watch it before you begin the devotionals. The song, as it is sung by this young man, is of high musical value and it is a beautiful rendition, but it is not the music that I would want for you to be impressed with, but rather the words of this song. Won’t you do that before we get started? My prayer for this series is that it will enrich our spiritual lives, raise our spiritual temperatures, and make us more of what God wants us to be as we declare that we need less of us and more of God. God bless you Trevor and Helene
