One of the most important things in order to keep humble is to keep off the pedestal. Everyone is looking for a hero and sometimes the heroes, however big or small they may be, climb onto the pedestal in order to enjoy the accolades. The problem with the pedestal is that when we fall off it (which inevitably happens) you take a whole lot of people down with you. Never, people, ever put anyone on a pedestal; it is only a matter of time before they will disappoint you and the devastation thereafter can be considerable. Enemy EIGHT. Theology gone wrong. Sometimes, theologically speaking, we can be so right that we can be wrong. The Pharisee in the story the other day prayed the most magnificent prayer. His theology was perfect, his understanding of the law was excellent, but in all of this it caused his heart to become hardened through pride. This self-righteous attitude is terribly destructive when it finds its way into the local church. Sadly it is prevalent amongst some Christians who have been on the Christian path for many years. There was a time when God really used them and they enjoyed the fervour of a refined faith, but sadly for some over the course of time, the euphoria of a living faith turned to cynicism and there is nothing uglier in the church today than this.
