Let ’ s Go Back in Time to Learn How It All Started .
Being new to aviation , I wanted to learn about the history of EAA .
The Experimental Aircraft Association ( EAA ) was founded by Paul Poberezny and a few aviation enthusiasts in 1953 . It started initially “ to aid and assist amateur aircraft builders , [ but soon ] encompassed the promotion of all facets of recreational aviation and … aviation safety .” ( www . eaa . org ) This message has evolved over the years but remains true to its origins - to support and promote recreational flying and inspire the “ spirit of aviation .” Today , this organization serves over 250,000 active members with almost 1,000 local chapters .
The very first EAA AirVenture fly-in event was held at Curtiss-Wright ( now Timmerman ) Field in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , attracted a mere 150 attendees , and showcased 21 aircraft . Today , it takes place at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh , Wisconsin , attracting 650,000 + people from around the world and 10,000 + aircraft .
There is so much more to learn . If you ’ d like to read more about the history of EAA , please visit www . eaa . org .
