EGBE , NIGERIA is a town with a population of about 35,000 people , with nearby villages ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 . There are no large stores and no industry like you would expect to see if you were in the United States . But what Egbe does have is an incredible medical complex that is serving half a million people living in a 100-mile radius .
This healthcare and medical education lighthouse are because one man had a vision , compassion , and the means to do something to help the people he came to know as the son of medical missionaries .
Don Campion is the founder and owner of Banyan Air Service , an award-winning full-service fixed-base operator with more than 1 million square feet of hangar and office space sitting within a 100-acre complex at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport .
Banyan provides business aviation services , including ground services , aircraft sales , heavy maintenance , exterior and interior upgrades , turbine engine service , structural repairs , avionics installations and services , and aircraft parts sales .
Campion was born and raised in Nigeria . His father was a doctor , and his mother was a nurse . They were young medical missionaries who went to a rural part of Nigeria and founded a small hospital in 1952 . Eventually , other missionaries joined them because the next nearest hospital was about 100 miles away over poor roads .
“ That institution became a lighthouse for that whole region for healthcare ,” Campion said . “ My parents stayed for 40 years .”
“ The project has come together way beyond our expectations .”
