Hello AQUILAnauts ,

and welcome aboard this terrifically tumultuous

Titanic issue !

To this day , the sinking of RMS Titanic remains the most disastrous peacetime sinking in maritime history , but it happened over 100 years ago , so why do we still learn about it now ? Let ’ s look at three of the BIG reasons , shall we ?

Titanic facts Everything you need to know in one big , icy GULP .
What lives on Titanic now ? Take a submersible safari with us to the ocean floor and the darkened deck of Titanic . Who lives in a house like this ? Answer : lots and lots of things ( and most of them are fairly scary looking ).
Reason number 1 : A historical snapshot
At the start of the 20th century the United States was quickly becoming a global power , giving rise to an age of mechanisation , prosperity and reform . The Titanic carried passengers from 33 different nationalities and from all walks of life , including many whose voices don ’ t often make it into the historical record . That ’ s why historians find it so fascinating .
Reason number 2 : A lot to know
The Titanic ’ s demise is one of the best documented disasters in history , and this is because it happened at a time when cheap newspapers were a big part of everyday life . In fact , the disaster gave big newspapers the chance to use technology in new ways – ushering in a new era in journalism .
Reason number 3 : A short , sharp shock
The Titanic disaster shocked the whole world . People on both sides of the Atlantic thought they ’ d solved a lot of human problems through invention , technology and new laws . But the Titanic sank because of the extreme power of nature – something we can ’ t actually control … and there ’ s
something quite scary about that , isn ’ t there ?
