Erin Morris always planned on having a “ Zest West .” The Woodland native co-founded the first iteration of this artisan bakery with fellow professionally trained pastry chef Gabriella Withrow in Connecticut , but she was determined to open a storefront in her hometown , which happened in 2018 . Zest ’ s delectable cakes , scones , cookies , cupcakes , tarts and breads plus breakfast and lunch options are made daily and feature innovative flavors and ingredients found in Yolo County , like local dairy and eggs , seasonal produce and lavender . Though their sweet treats are beyond delicious , both bakers were “ driven to erase the general belief that pastries must be sweet ” by including savory flavors in unexpected ways . An Earl Gray honey scone ? Yes , please !
