McClellan Park looks to its
history to plan its future
by Jessica Laskey
From the air, one could imagine that
McClellan Park looks like a landscape
portrait created by Austrian painter
Gustav Klimt — geometric streets, rail lines
and an approximately 2-mile long runway
crisscross its face, softened by greenspace
dotting the land.
From the ground, the business park is
no less artistic, with a mix of crisp industrial
lines, lush landscaping, stately historic
structures and modern glass-fronted
buildings that look almost futuristic.
McClellan Air Force Base, the business
park’s forerunner, was built in 1936 and
operated until its closure in 2001 as part
of the U.S. Department of Defense Base
