SPECIAL PROMOTIONAL SECTION THEN AND NOW McClellan Park looks to its history to plan its future by Jessica Laskey photo by Hector Amezcua From the air, one could imagine that McClellan Park looks like a landscape portrait created by Austrian painter Gustav Klimt — geometric streets, rail lines and an approximately 2-mile long runway crisscross its face, softened by greenspace dotting the land. From the ground, the business park is no less artistic, with a mix of crisp industrial lines, lush landscaping, stately historic structures and modern glass-fronted buildings that look almost futuristic. McClellan Air Force Base, the business park’s forerunner, was built in 1936 and operated until its closure in 2001 as part of the U.S. Department of Defense Base September 2020 | comstocksmag.com 73
