“It’s been a privilege to create a historically based building as the new location for Scott’s Seafood and for Willamette Wineworks — the only Oregon winery to establish an outpost in California.” — JERRY BERNAU President of Bernau Development Corporation Willamette Wineworks, the Roundhouse’s second-floor tenant, features wines from Oregon’s renowned Willamette Valley Vineyards and food pairings served in a comfortable lounge environment and an outdoor terrace. Opened in February, it’s the region’s only tasting room with a microwinery where guests can create their own wines using a unique barrel-blending system. Look for Willamette Wineworks’ Natoma wines, honoring the region’s celebrated 19thcentury Natoma Vineyards. Bernau’s construction arm, Kensington Homes, Inc., acted as general contractor for the Roundhouse’s exterior as well as the interior of Willamette Wineworks. Scott’s Seafood, one of Folsom’s most iconic and beloved restaurants for more than 20 years, opened on the Roundhouse’s first floor in July and owes its interior tenant improvements to general contractor Headwaters Construction. With current mandates, Scott’s offers outdoor dining, now serving its signature dishes seven days a week on its patio. “During design, we didn’t anticipate the pandemic, but outdoor dining has always been a regional desire with our great climate, and it’s serving us well now,” Bernau says. Bernau Development has proven its ability to enhance Historic Folsom with Sutter Street’s first residential lofts and mixed-use projects already in place, as well as the grand new Roundhouse. Three more Bernau-owned parcels stand ready and will see construction of the Granite House, Sutter Row and the Leidesdorff Building, all historically themed and designed for residential, office and retail mixed use. The Roundhouse is part of Folsom’s historic fabric and its dynamic future. “This building has a myriad of historical elements recognizing this city’s past, but, most importantly, two phenomenal tenants that make the building come to life,” says Bernau. “It’s been a privilege to create a historically based building as the new location for Scott’s Seafood and Willamette Wineworks — the only Oregon winery to establish an outpost in California. A building is really nothing until it’s occupied, and people are enjoying its wonderful environment.” GENERAL CONTRACTOR GENERAL CONTRACTOR ANDERSEN WINDOWS & DOORS ROOFING & HVAC CIVIL ENGINEERING & SURVEY STRUCTURAL & DECORATIVE STEEL FABRICATION & INSTALLATION ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR CAPITAL VALLEY FABRICATION GRANITE & TILE FRAMING CONTRACTOR PHOTOS BY ROBERT MACIAS September 2020 | comstocksmag.com 47
