And on a final happy note , Demir reminds us that even in the spreadsheet-filled context of the workplace , happiness can pay real dividends . “ When people are happy , they are less likely to miss workdays . They are likely to have greater self-regulation at work ,” he says , adding that happy employees tend to have enhanced creativity , more positive relationships with their colleagues and higher levels of motivation , and they ’ re more likely to score good performance reviews .
So is it possible to become happier ? “ Definitely . It is possible to get a new baseline ,” says Demir , although it ’ s not as simple or easy as saying , “ Don ’ t worry , be happy .” It takes a sense of purpose . It even takes work . And this is
the goal of Demir ’ s happiness booths , which he hopes to have up and running as soon as it ’ s safe , post-pandemic . He wants more people to appreciate that “ happiness is within your reach .”
