More people also means a greater need for health care . Kaiser Permanente recently announced plans for a $ 300 million , 275,000-square-foot inpatient tower at its Roseville Medical Center that would add 138 beds , including 30 in the ICU . Meanwhile , Sutter Roseville was accredited as the first teaching hospital within its system and welcomed its initial cohort of 19 residents in July . Sutter plans to expand the class to up to 150 residents in the coming years .
A few miles north , Lincoln has managed to retain its small-town feel even as its footprint spread during the pandemic with the arrival of a flood of former Bay Area residents .
“ We ’ re seeing that big growth spurt along with some amazing , huge projects going through LAFCO ( Local Agency
Formation Commission ) right now ,” says Tom Indrieri , CEO of the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce . “ Village Five is out by our airport — we ’ re talking 4,700 acres , another six to seven thousand homes with a bunch of commercial .”
Lincoln grew by over 280 percent between 2000 and 2010 , making it the fastest-growing city in California during that period , and now has a population of about 50,000 . Indrieri expects that number to double once again before too long and to continue upwards from there . “ Our general plan calls for 120,000 people ,” he says . “ With another 10 to 15 years of build- out , I think we ’ re going to be close to our plan ’ s ( population ) projection .”
Indrieri says the city has worked to be more pro-business and make the process easier for residential and commercial developers . Investment has been coming into downtown in the form of a new brewery and a revitalization spurred by the purchase of a building by Old Town Pizza . The city is positioning itself as the gateway to the Placer Wine & Ale Trail and brings in as many as 10,000 residents from the CA-65 corridor for Fourth of July and Christmas parades .
Rocklin is also gaining traction as a business-friendly city and is seeing increased interest from companies looking to relocate from the Bay Area , says Sherri Conway , the city ’ s assistant city manager . It touts a smart and ready workforce — almost half of residents over the age of 25 have a bachelor ’ s degree or higher — and it has enacted a three-
