Placer Valley enjoys an economic boom By Ken Smith
W hile the number of Californians shrunk for the first time in over a century during the pandemic , Placer County — and especially the Placer Valley area consisting of Roseville , Rocklin and Lincoln — is enjoying some of the state ’ s biggest population growth and an economic boom .
“ Roseville is experiencing some of the most transformative growth in its history ,” says Melissa Anguiano , the city ’ s economic development director . Over the past decade , she says , the city has focused on improvements to infrastructure that have made Roseville ’ s eclectic downtown more attractive to businesses and accessible to visitors who want to enjoy a new music venue and the growing number of restaurants . The city has also taken the innovative step of launching the Roseville Venture Lab to help accelerate the growth of local businesses .
“ With the city , we want to grow innovation and entrepreneurship ,” says Mark Haney , founding partner of The Growth Factory , a business accelerator with an accompanying venture capital fund that has become one of the leading backers of startups in the region . “ We ’ ll be running programs designed specifically for those companies in Downtown Roseville . When The Growth Factory was launched , our investment arm was focused on companies that are more venture bankable , but we ’ re going to be offering services to companies regardless of their approach . Some of them want to stay ‘ Main Street ’ — mom and pop — and their goal is not to scale nationally or globally .” The Roseville Venture Lab is expected to open to business owners later this summer in a city building on Vernon Street . “ They ’ ll be able to just walk into the facility and ask questions , share their ideas , and we ’ ll get them plugged into our ecosystem ,” Haney says .
