PLACER VALLEY
Tim Schaedler , a partner at Panattoni Development , can attest that Placer County offers a lot of benefits to businesses looking for a convenient and affordable location . ( Panattoni has several projects in the area .) “ Many of the companies we work with are concerned about the quality of life , employee longevity and access to talent when considering where to invest in their corporate real estate ,” Schaedler says . “ Placer County checks many of these boxes and the leadership of this area is committed to providing additional well-thought-out master planned communities , quality education , clean streets and a pro-business environment .”
“ We have a very strong commitment to supporting businesses , in particular small businesses ,” Wiley says . “ When you couple the quality of life with our business environment , there really isn ’ t any better place to live .”
One catalyst for growth will be Placer Ranch , a 2,200-acre development that will include a mix of over 5,600
housing units as well as commercial usage . Its main feature , however , will be the Sacramento State satellite campus , which will offer new educational opportunities for local students while enhancing the area ’ s arts and cultural ambience .
“ I ’ m excited to see what develops around it ,” says Holly Tiche , president of Placer Ranch , Inc . She believes that the campus will attract innovation and jobs to the area — a goal she says the county had when it first set aside the land and began looking into bringing a higher education facility to Placer County two decades ago . “ There ’ s nothing but opportunity with the diversity of housing , with the ability to locate businesses here . It ’ s a huge , huge opportunity for the region and I think it ’ s a game changer .”
Tiche also sees the project , and especially the campus , as a fitting reminder of the legacy and tenacity of Eli Broad , the developer and sole owner behind Placer Ranch . Broad died in April , just a few weeks after the CSU Trustees gave the project its approval . “ There ’ s not a lot of developers who would hang in there , property owners that would hang in there , for 20 years trying to get something approved so they could make a donation to a CSU campus ,” Tiche says .
Just to the north of Placer Ranch at Thunder Valley Casino Resort , another enhancement to the area ’ s cultural scene is taking shape . The United Auburn Indian Community recently broke ground on a $ 100 million , 4,500-seat theater and configurable event space called The Venue . It will replace the outdoor area that has been used for the resort ’ s summer concert series but was hindered by valley heat , rumbling trains that threw off comedians ’ timing and a noise ordinance that shut music acts down at 10 p . m .
“ I think it ’ s going to pump in a lot of energy here ,” says Thunder Valley ’ s General Manager Dawn Clayton , adding that the theater will bring a new range of entertainment to the area , draw bigger acts year-round and serve as a site for community events such as graduations ,
