Within its 1,400 square miles , Placer County offers some of the world ’ s best recreation . From the more urban Placer Valley through the Gold Country of the Sierra Nevada foothills to the world-renowned alpine jewel of Lake Tahoe , Placer County is a destination for travelers and its own residents . Significant new facilities and attractions have been added in recent years , making it even more of a draw .
OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
Placer County ’ s natural bounty is one of its biggest assets . From Folsom Lake to Lake Tahoe , residents and visitors have vast access to outdoor recreation including hiking , biking , rock climbing , camping , fishing , kayaking , horseback riding , snow skiing , water skiing and much more .
“ Placer County is one of California ’ s greatest outdoor playlands with an astounding variety of activities ,” says Rob Haswell , CEO of Visit Placer . “ Lake Tahoe and Folsom Lake usually come to mind first , but other gems such as Lake Clementine , Rollins Lake , Hidden Falls Regional Park and the Auburn State Recreation Area offer so much .”
The Auburn State Recreation Area , accessible just off Interstate 80 and containing a portion of historic Highway 49 , offers 40 miles of access to the American River ’ s north and middle forks , firstclass river rafting and kayaking , fishing , camping , gold panning and 100 miles of varied hiking and horseback trails . Hidden Falls Regional Park , between Auburn and Lincoln , has 30 miles of well-developed multi-use trails . An expansion approved in March will double the park ’ s trail network mileage and expand its footprint from 1,200 to 3,395 acres , as well as add vehicle , ADA and equestrian parking .
Quarry Park Adventures brings exhilarating outdoor adventure into the city . Recently developed on a former working quarry by the City of Rocklin , this family recreation park offers rock climbing , rappelling , zip lining , paddle boats and an amphitheater . “ This great new attraction brings the outdoor activities our county
