Now a factory WorldSBK rider with BbKRT, Axel had an immediate impact when he arrived in WorldSBK on a fast Ducati.
He goes back a little to choose his all-time WorldSBK champion.“ The one I can remember is Troy Bayliss,” said Axel.“ I like him a lot, and especially in the past few years I had the opportunity to know him a little bit. He is a really good person, calm, gentle and easy. I also liked Colin Edwards. There are a lot of really nice WorldSBK riders, like Fogarty, Chili, Haga, who were strong and fun.”
For an era, Bassani stays with the era of his favourite riders.
“ I think the most memorable era of WorldSBK was the 1990s and the first years of the 2000s, also because of the riders I mentioned before. I think it was absolutely the best moment in WorldSBK and I hope in the near future we can have a lot of fans- like we had in Portimao this year. When there are a lot of fans at the circuit it is more fun and more special.”
His own personal best memory is when he made a real name for himself in his full rookie WorldSBK season.“ I think all of my first full year, in 2021, immediately we were fast and we also took a podium in Barcelona, in the rain. We were leading until two laps to go … All that first year was fantastic, with really nice rivals. I did a lot of races with Jonathan Rea, Toprak Razgatlioglu, Scott Redding, and many others. The year before I was watching them on TV and the year later I was fighting on track with them. It was like a dream, for sure.”

Axel, che ora è un pilota ufficiale WorldSBK con BbKRT, ebbe un impatto immediato al suo arrivo nel WorldSBK in sella ad una velocissima Ducati.
Il pilota veneto torna al passato per scegliere il suo campione WorldSBK di tutti i tempi.“ Quello che ricordo è Troy Bayliss”, ci ha detto Axel.“ Mi piace molto, e soprattutto negli ultimi anni ho avuto l’ opportunità di conoscerlo un po’. È una persona davvero brava, calma, gentile e alla mano. Mi piaceva anche Colin Edwards. Ci sono stati molti piloti WorldSBK davvero bravi, come Fogarty, Chili, Haga, che erano veloci e divertenti.”
Per quanto riguarda un’ epoca, Bassani rimane legato all’ era dei suoi piloti preferiti.
“ Credo che l’ era più memorabile del WorldSBK sia stata quella degli anni‘ 90 e dei primi anni 2000, anche grazie ai piloti che ho menzionato prima. Penso che sia stato in assoluto il momento migliore del WorldSBK e spero che in un prossimo futuro potremo tornare ad avere tanti tifosi sugli spalti, come è successo a Portimão quest’ anno. Quando ci sono tanti tifosi a bordo pista è tutto più divertente e speciale.”
Il suo ricordo più bello è legato a quando si è fatto conoscere, nella sua stagione d’ esordio completa nel WorldSBK.“ Penso che nel mio primo anno completo, nel 2021, siamo stati subito veloci e abbiamo anche conquistato un podio a Barcellona, sotto la pioggia. Eravamo in testa fino a due giri dalla fine … In quel primo anno è stato tutto fantastico, con avversari davvero validi. Ho fatto molte gare con Jonathan Rea, Toprak Razgatlioglu, Scott Redding e molti altri. L’ anno prima li guardavo in TV e l’ anno dopo lottavo in pista con loro. È stato senza dubbio come vivere un sogno.”
