Accomplished RN Lenore Erman saw a need for quality healthcare , so in 1991 , she established what is now Rx HealthCare Services . An entrepreneur in the industry , she was on the leading edge of identifying and meeting health care needs that have rapidly increased over the decades .
Serving seven Sacramento-area counties with more than 150 employees and seven departments , Rx HealthCare Services remains a leader today . The company ’ s success is a direct result of the highest quality of client and patient care , as well as embracing employees as extended family with an opendoor management approach .
Originally a nursing staffing registry company , Rx today provides Home Health , Palliative , Hospice , Caregiving , Behavioral Health , School Nursing , Facility Staffing , and Case Management . Rx also launched an IV Certification Program this past year .

With three generations at the helm , Rx is well positioned . At age 84 , Erman is president and her son Ken Erman , also a nurse and Sacramento State graduate , is CEO . The secret to Rx ’ s success ? “ Quality of care and treating employees like extended family are what set us apart ,” Ken Erman says .
Looking ahead , Rx services will expand with the region ’ s rising need , but commitment to quality care will remain paramount .

Likewise , the demand for assisted living is growing , thanks to improvements in medical technology enabling people to remain active longer in life . “ For the most part , our customers are in their late 70s or 80s and either want easier access to amenities or just need a little extra help with personal things ” such as dressing or remembering to take medication , Peifer says . Reflecting that growing interest , Martin says Sonrisa “ just broke ground on our first assisted living and memory care facility .”
After spending more than 30 years with UC Davis Health , Dr . Shelton Duruisseau has seen the need for skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities grow and is looking to meet that need through a partnership with developer New Faze Development . The partnership has plans to build a pair of 60-bed skilled nursing facilities in El Dorado Hills and Elk Grove that can provide short-term medical care in emergencies , such as when an elderly person is injured in a fall , as well as longterm care .
“ My goal is to provide rehabilitation so that a person can go back home and be taken care of by loved ones ,” says the 78-year-old physician . “ The need is growing and the research I ’ ve seen says we will have this population with us for the next 20 to 25 years .”
