the battle
between
shapes
Se Young Park | short fiction
I am a member of the CSU (Circle and Square Union)
and have brought a letter to human beings. It is of the
utmost importance and needs to be read as soon as
possible.
Ever since the beginning of time, there has been a
war between two deadly foes; circles and squares,
two different shapes. This fierce battle between the
two shapes has influenced us more than we know and
shaped the world we live in today. Like gargoyles that
wage their battles in the shadow of the night, the battle
between these two shapes takes place in the midst
of human civilization; it glides through the pages of
history and the casualties are not known to mere human
beings.
Our battle is not similar to the battles human beings
fight. While you may stab each other, spray bullets
into each other’s’ flesh, and soak the fields with blood,
we have a different method of combat, one that is less
gruesome. At the end of each day, we count how many
circles or squares have been made, then we add up
the numbers, and the side with the larger sum wins.
Yesterday, a total number of eighty million circles
and seven billion squares were made. An easy win for
squares but that was because of all the smart phones
that have been made
