Sacramento Life Center 50 Successful Years and Ready to Do More

Founded in 1972 as a helpline , Sacramento Life Center is now a state-licensed , nationally accredited community health clinic offering services and resources to women facing unplanned or unsupported pregnancies . “ We are celebrating 50 years of embracing lives , one pregnancy at a time ,” says Marie Leatherby , executive director .

SLC ’ s mission is to provide compassion , support , resources and free medical services to pregnant women in need . “ We provide judgment-free services to those facing unsupported pregnancies and equip them to uphold the value of life ,” Leatherby says . “ We look to build on the thousands of lives we ’ ve helped save and families we ’ ve helped strengthen .” SLC served more than 2,100 women in 2021 and has served about 50,000 women since 1972 . Programs and services range from a pregnancy hotline , OB / GYN referrals and pregnancy testing to health exams , STD testing and ultrasounds . Connecting new mothers with materials such as infant clothing , diapers and furniture is also part of SLC ’ s continuum of care . advocates , an ultrasound tech , a nurse practitioner and three registered nurses , and is augmented by three volunteer OB / GYN medical doctors .
“ An unplanned pregnancy can be a very scary time for many women ,” Leatherby says . “ We help take that fear away and set them up with support at every step of the way . We are a sanctuary and safe place , providing better outcomes for moms and babies .”
SLC will soon unveil its new state-of-the-art mobile clinic , which will enable them to transport their medical services and wellness care directly into neighborhoods where they ’ re most needed . With plans of serving even more women , the organization also looks to open a South Sacramento clinic to complement its community health center in the Arden-Arcade area . “ We always strive to better our reach and our services and are grateful for community support ,” Leatherby says .
