Lillian Murphy
A Desire to Ease Suffering
An important research award allowed Lillian Murphy to focus on research work conducted alongside faculty at Sacramento State . “ My mom is a driving factor . She has had chronic pain her whole life . I would hope to help develop a treatment for others who suffer from it . I want to improve the lives of others ,” said Murphy , now in graduate school pursuing her dream to become a neurologist .

Mentor With a Mission
“ I try to get students involved and get them to take that leap ,” said Sac State Biology Professor Ron Coleman , whose student-centric approach has impacted his students ’ lives over the years . “ He helped me understand what it means to be a scientist and helped me feel like I was a scientist ,” said Ameer Thompson ‘ 05 , now Dean of Science and Technology at Cañada College , and a scholarship donor .

Azriel “ AZ ” Nicdao
Serial Entrepreneur
Azriel Nicdao plans to launch multiple businesses , but first he needed to learn the fundamentals of entrepreneurship . “ With the Carlsen Center , I ’ ve learned to better collaborate with individuals and discovered how much I love working with other people ,” Nicdao said . “ I will always thank the Carlsen Center for inspiring me to continue as an entrepreneur , and to thrive and make an impact .”
