Hello, and welcome to this excellent Earth Science issue of AQUILA!

The life and times of Sir David Attenborough! Think you know everything there is to know about the nation’ s favourite naturalist? Well, guess again, smarty-pants!

What? The WHOLE Earth?’ I hear you say.‘ That’ s a lot to fit into a 32 page magazine, even for you, AQUILA.’ And yes, you’ d be correct. Did we bite off a tad more than we could chew here? Possibly. Did we have a great time exploring sinkholes and killer lakes and living things that use poo as their love language? YOU BETCHA! Here are three brilliant facts we found out:

1 The deepest hole ever dug by humans is the Kola Superdeep Borehole in Russia. The project was abandoned because the temperature at the bottom was so much higher than expected.
Postcards from past Earth Astra’ s gone on an extended holiday … a very extended holiday. She’ s time travelled hundreds of millions of years, back to Earth as it once was. What will she discover? Let’ s find out.
2 Have you ever heard an iceberg? Did you know they can sing? Some make really eerie sounds when they hit the sea floor – like a thousand ghosts auditioning for X factor. Others just sound like they’ re unabashedly farting into a cathedral.
3 Zebras and wildebeest migrate together so they can benefit from each other’ s strengths. Zebras have really good eyesight, so they can spot predators from further away. Wildebeest have good hearing and an excellent sense of smell. As a team, they’ re the perfect security system, although too messy to install in your house.
