UC DAVIS HEALTH

WELCOME

A little over 150 years ago , the City and County of Sacramento worked together to open a hospital for needy patients at Stockton Boulevard and X Street . That humble hospital from 1871 has grown into today ’ s UC Davis Health , a nationally ranked academic medical center and teaching hospital that now helps to define what happens next in the 21st century of health care in Northern California .
I ’ m so proud to work at UC Davis Health and see a future that ’ s going to build relentlessly on the great work we do today . I ’ m confident that as we all move past the pandemic , we will continue to evolve the very nature and impact of what we do for patients . Over the last century and a half , our work on health equity and care for the underserved has been well-chronicled . Moving forward , we ’ re bringing next-level solutions to bridge the remaining gaps and help all patients to receive high-quality care , whether it ’ s from us or someone else , in person or through a digital interface .
Our regional patient base is large and diverse — we serve more than 6 million patients in 33 counties in a 65,000-squaremile area north to the Oregon border and east to Nevada , partnering with more than 90 hospitals to improve patient care throughout the region . The challenge is big — and welcomed .
To maximize our impact , we follow an approach of “ completing , not competing ” with our health allies to improve care for all patients everywhere , including in the neediest rural and urban areas . This sense of humanity and expertise defines our nationally recognized model for the patient experience .
Through the years , U . S . News & World Report has consistently ranked us as Sacramento ’ s No . 1 Hospital . As you ’ ll see in this special section , we ’ re moving ahead in purposeful directions — caring for patients , sharing world-class research and training the future ’ s physicians , nurses and providers . We ’ re expanding our facilities , supporting Federally Qualified Health Centers in our urban core , bringing mobile care to farm worker communities and reaching out beyond our walls . Through our Anchor Institution Mission , we ’ re advancing health and equity in our surrounding neighborhoods , helping to bring back a long-neglected part of the community by investing , hiring and sourcing goods locally .
Innovative technology , artificial intelligence and virtual medicine are shaping the future of care everywhere , and especially at UC Davis Health . Our success stories include a virtual children ’ s hospital specializing in rural pediatrics serving our littlest patients across the large Northern California landscape , robotic-assisted cardiac surgery for patients , patient prescriptions through digital apps on their smartphones , and the world ’ s first-ever total-body positron emission tomography ( PET ) scanner that is 40 times more sensitive detecting cancer than before .
Finally , we stand with community during crises . Throughout COVID-19 , partnerships emerged with a large number of local community organizations to better care for previously underserved patients , and internal partnerships grew in both scope and number across the causeway . Scientists all across our great university became national leaders in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic , treating thousands of the region ’ s sickest patients , helping create innovations in care , treatments and testing , pioneering how to keep an entire town safe in Healthy Davis Together , and participating in crucial vaccine clinical trials .
To all of you , thank you for your support . Go , Aggies !
