If you ask Winnie Comstock-Carlson how hard it was to start her own magazine , she ’ ll look at you and laugh . “ Trust me , I had no idea !” board . Everyone I talked to realized this would be something very good for our region ,” says Comstock-Carlson , who is the magazine ’ s president and publisher .
But that ’ s what she did 33 years ago . With just $ 2.50 in her pocket , she hired an editor , writers , photographers and a graphic artist to put together a business magazine in four months with a handshake agreement that she would eventually pay them . As for the sales staff , it was Comstock-Carlson herself calling people and knocking on doors to convince them to advertise in her brand-new publication . “ It was challenging and people didn ’ t pay right away .
