WOMEN LEADING THE WAY TO THE FUTURE

Rancho Cordova abounds with exciting new projects . Three are highlighted here , along with the thoughts of the women leading them .

Citywide Fiber Network — Rancho Cordova will be the region ’ s first city with a citywide fiber network that will allow gigabit internet plus broadband to reach every house and business . Partnered with SiFi Networks , the city broke ground for Rancho Cordova FiberCity in February . The fiber network and gigabit speeds will be available in phases to neighborhoods , with citywide completion expected in 2024 . Dalia Fadl , principal engineer with the Public Works Department , says , “ I ’ m proud to lead the citywide fiber network installation project with our partner , SiFi Networks . This will help close the digital divide , enhance economic development and provide more broadband service options .”
Workforce Development Program — Rancho Cordova , home to 3,500-plus businesses with a workforce of 65,000- plus , will offer free education and training for residents who are unemployed , underemployed or want to upskill . Free access to online classes is available to residents to develop skills , including software engineering , programming , data analytics and online degrees . Amanda Norton , economic development manager , says , “ Residents are looking for new careers or to advance within their careers . This program will help them find new paths to better provide for their families and help our businesses to find the talent needed to thrive .”
Rancho Cordova Youth Center — The city is investing $ 5 million to serve elementary and teenage students with a focus on equity , inclusion , mentorship , academic support and sports activities . The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Sacramento and the Rancho Cordova Police Activities League will operate the Youth Center , opening this summer . Megan Siren , senior management analyst for the city manager ’ s office , says , “ The Youth Center is important to our community and it ’ s exciting to bring it from inception to implementation . While planning this project , I kept our students in mind and how the Youth Center will support their futures .”
