Capital Region Cares
For Comstock ’ s 32-year history , it ’ s been important to put a spotlight on the wonderful work being done by our regional nonprofit organizations who serve in all areas . We always want to take time to recognize these groups ’ tireless commitment to providing critical community services across a wide range of sectors .
Needless to say , this last year hasn ’ t been easy for anyone , from those who depend on help from nonprofits who serve them , to the very nonprofit organizations themselves who rely on community support , in-person experiences and donations to meet their bottom lines . Nonprofits have had to get creative in the ways they reach their audiences , generate interest and provide services in a world where money is tight and health restrictions are even tighter .
In this Capital Region Cares section , we ’ re proud to feature some of the nonprofits doing important work in our region , explore how these organizations are surviving , thriving and shifting their ways of doing business to stay afloat in this unprecedented time , and we talk to nonprofit leaders about what keeps them motivated , as well as what they ’ re hoping the future will hold as the world slowly recovers from the pandemic .
I ’ m very proud to see that our community has continued to be incredibly supportive of our nonprofit sector , even in the midst of a pandemic . Despite events being cancelled , rescheduled or moved online , donors have stepped up in a big way with unprecedented levels of giving . CASA Sacramento ’ s annual Crab Dinner went virtual in February , but the youth advocacy group still managed to raise $ 195,000 . Raley ’ s Food For Families Annual Holiday Drive raised more than $ 3 million — the largest amount ever donated for the event . The Sacramento Region Community Foundation ’ s Big Day of Giving outdid itself last year as well , raising a record $ 12 million for more than 600 organizations .
I ’ ve always been a proud supporter of our region ’ s nonprofits , not only because of the amazing work they do for our community , but also because of the incredible men and women who lead these organizations year after year through ups and downs , boom and bust , turmoil and triumph , joy and grief — all in the name of service .
