Enhancing Employee Experience is Focus at Freeport

Being able to attract , hire and retain employees may seem straightforward , but it requires looking at the big picture and what current and potential employees value .

“ The pandemic has changed the relationship between people and their work . Employees are looking at everything a company offers – not just their compensation and benefits package – and deciding what makes them happy and whole ,” said Pam Masson , Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer .

Today , companies like Freeport must navigate evolving and challenging business outlooks while facing stiff competition for talented employees . This makes it critical to have the right approach and mix of elements to appeal to job seekers and employees .

Helping the company do just that is the corporate HR team , which partnered with a third-party consultant to conduct a market review of Freeport ’ s offerings . The evaluation , which included input from employees , indicated the company either leads or competes – but doesn ’ t lag – in various elements , such as benefits , compensation , well-being and development opportunities .

The HR team is now using the results to further develop and deliver a strong employee experience that attracts talent , supports retention and boosts engagement through various offerings .

Some recent actions include :

• Providing salary increases to eligible employees based on various factors , including market data and individual performance

• Absorbing 2023 benefits cost increases as one way to assist with sustained inflationary pressures

• Offering a new employee assistance program with a mental wellness focus

• Modernizing job titles to better reflect the work

• Launching a new learning management system to support development

• Providing Coaching for Success training to upskill and develop leaders

“ We continually challenge ourselves to find ways to support employee growth , connection , well-being and understanding of our total compensation package ,” Masson said . “ We ’ re on that journey now and are excited to share more about this as we evolve our programs .”
