Fish and Chips
‘Fish and chips’ is one of the
British national dishes. They
have been around for more
than 150 years. Originally
sold wrapped in newspaper,
fish and chips are very
common in the UK. You can
get them from fish and chip
shops (or ‘chippies’),
loaded with salt and
vinegar; or, you can find
them in restaurants, where
they are served with mushy
peas, a piece of lemon, and
some tartar sauce.
There is a saying that fish
and chips helped Britain win
the World Wars, as they
provided the British soldiers
the energy and a sense of
home.
