Then, in 1215, a group of barons from the north decided they’d had
enough and rebelled against King John. They pressured him into signing
an agreement, known today as ‘Magna Carta’, which limited the king’s
authorities and started a council of barons—an action which paved the
way for the forming of Parliament a century later.
