kingdom, eventually
defeated King Guthrum
of the Danes in a battle.
The Danelaw
To end the exhausting
war, they agreed to sign
a peace treaty, splitting
the country in half. The
Danes’ territory was
called the ‘Danelaw’ or
‘Danelagh’.
