PROGRAM

Minnesota is known worldwide for the important medical milestones that have happened here . The first successful open-heart surgery was performed in Minnesota in 1952 . The 12-step treatment model for addressing addiction was developed here , and of course Minnesota is home to the worldrenowned Mayo Clinic .

Realizing the potential to further Minnesota ’ s reputation as a medical giant , Century College , which is known for its high-quality programs and degrees taught by expert instructors , opened a new state-of-the-art Applied Technology Center in Fall 2021 . It is in this new $ 6.9 million state funded center where students working to earn their Biofabrication Technologist Certificate are trained .
Biofabrication is a new and emerging field that integrates and applies knowledge from the disciplines of biology and additive manufacturing , which is more commonly known as 3D printing . In this 5-course program and internship spread out over two semesters , students encounter stateof-the-art topics and solve innovative problems , such as bioprinting living cells in 3D and 4D . The skills students learn in the program can be used to bioprint replacement human organs and tissues , create personalized prosthetics and implants , and develop drug delivery devices .
Century College ’ s new Applied Technology Center houses labs for the required courses for the Biofabrication Technology Certificate program . Courses fall under the areas of Additive
