Because of the pandemic , there is a growing need for healthcare workers not just in the Northeast Metro , but throughout the world . All the long hours and huge demand for their services have left many doctors , nurses , and support staff suffering from burnout . Despite their best efforts to protect themselves from the Coronavirus , others have gotten sick .

In November 2021 , Minnesota Governor Tim Walz activated the National Guard to serve as members of skilled-nursing “ rapid response teams ” that would support healthcare facilities dealing with severe staffing shortages .
