The 140-acre community , still in the planning stages , will feature villas , carriage homes , and 2-story single family homes . The property is off Highway 61 on 159th Street . There are also several smaller residential developments planned in 2022 .
“ And we are turning on one of our largest storm water reuse projects in 2022 . It will irrigate County Road 8 , City Hall , Lions Park and a senior housing project and apartment project near Lions Park ,” said Juba , who added that the City has been securing grant money to get pumps and systems installed that use storm water ponds to irrigate parks and boulevards and larger developments instead of using drinking water .
In 2021 , the City used 50 million gallons of storm water instead of drinking water for irrigation , and expects that number to increase in 2022 .

MAHTOMEDI

There are several projects underway in the City of Mahtomedi as well . In late 2021 , the Mahtomedi City Council approved plans for a 110 unit mixedincome apartment building to be built on a 4.4 acre site along Wildwood Road .
About half of the units will be set aside for people whose income is below the area median . Construction is set to begin in 2022 and be completed in 2023 .
Also , in 2022 , Washington County , working with the City of Mahtomedi , has a pavement improvement project planned for County Highway 12 ( Wildwood Road ) from Century Avenue to Stillwater Road . The improvements will consist of pavement and signage replacement , as well as striping on the roadway , improved pedestrian crossings along the corridor , a signal at Wedgewood Drive , and a multi-purpose off-road trail on a portion of Wildwood Road ( on the southside ). The project will begin in 2022 and be completed in 2023 .
In 2021 , Mahtomedi celebrated the completion of the new 12,000-squarefoot Wildwood Library , part of the Washington County Library system . The new building is 3,000 square feet larger than the building it replaced . The library features separate adult , teen , and children ’ s areas that open to outdoor patios ; a fireplace ; and large conference room and breakout spaces for studying and reading .
Also , in 2021 , the redesign and reconstruction of Stillwater Road ( County Road 12 ) was completed . The road serves nearly 10,000 vehicles per day and is an important east-west corridor for local and regional trips . It is also a major connector for the Mahtomedi and Willernie businesses . Improvements included pedestrian routes on both sides of the street , and safety and access improvements for bikers . The project also included decorative lighting and beautification , improving the road and making the downtown more inviting for businesses and residents .

MAPLEWOOD

The most significant project underway in Maplewood for 2022 is construction of a new Fire / EMS facility on the north end of town . The new 30,000-square-foot complex will replace the old Londin Lane fire station .
Once finished , the new facility will house the City ’ s administrative offices . It will have seven drive-through bays for fire apparatus and ambulances , and will also feature modern living quarters for 24-hour staffing , a workout facility , and community gathering space . The design also mitigates cancer-causing job hazards . Construction is on pace to meet the department ’ s anticipated summer occupancy .
After a four-year collaborative planning process that involved community members , business leaders and development consultants , 2022 will also bring physical improvements to Maplewood ’ s North End . Plans include the extension of St . John ’ s Boulevard , repurposing existing retail space , and building multi-family housing .
In 2022 , Metro Transit will begin advanced station development on the Purple Line Bus Rapid Transit . The planned Gladstone station along Frost Avenue provides opportunities to redevelop the Moose Lodge property and other underutilized parcels in the area .
Toward the South End of town , Gold Line BRT construction begins this year . The line will better connect Maplewood with Woodbury and downtown St . Paul , via stations at the 3M campus and Sun Ray Shopping center .
In addition , Public Works will break ground on three major street reconstruction projects . The McMenemy Street Improvement project is a full street and curb reconstruction that includes new water mains , storm sewer upgrades , and repairs to the sanitary sewer system . It will also make the street more pedestrian friendly .
Along Gervais and Cope , crews will begin rehabilitation projects to repair failing street sections and deteriorating concrete curb and gutter . These projects also include minor upgrades to the storm and sanitary sewer systems and replacement of the cast iron water main in select locations . Pedestrian walkways will also be brought into ADA compliance .
And this summer , Sherwood Park will get a new playground . Goodrich and Harvest Parks will also see improvements , including the addition of more picnic shelters .
