“ We are currently gearing up to get students back into the shop this summer following all the COVID protocols that have kept us safe over the past year . We will be doing a slightly different format this year where the students will work together for one week in a pod of four ,” said Justin McPhee , Vice President and General Manager of Westfall Technik .
“ We feel the small group setting will help students feel more comfortable working with peers , and allow them to learn from each other . Due to the investment in preparing an event like this , we will likely be doing a very similar program where the culmination will be a molded part from our state of the art Tech Center .”
In addition to Westfall Technik ( formerly Mold Craft ), other Northeast Metro companies partnering with NEME include Team Vantage and Fairway Collision & Autobody . Other companies that have participated in the past include Herold Precision Metals , The Specialty Manufacturing Company , Cummins , LasX Industries , Renstrom Dental Studios , Superior Machine Inc ., and the Buerkle and Walser Automotive Groups .
When the danger of COVID has passed , Moore hopes the other partners will be able to resume their relationships with the program as well . “ They are still our partners . It ’ s just that they can ’ t do it this year ,” she said . “ This is a program that will continue on regardless of whether the grant is awarded again .”
O ’ Donovan added that a lot of the thanks for keeping the program alive goes to VHEDC / NEME Program Director Liz Moscatelli who serves as the link between VHEDC and the Youth Skills Training Program . “ She does all the compliance paperwork and reporting . Board Member Debby Gustafson serves as a liaison / advisor to the project team . Both women have been tremendous assets to keeping the project going . We couldn ’ t have done this without their support !” she said .
