Willow Lake Dental , founded by Tracy St . Dennis , D . D . S ., opened its doors in January 2017 . As the practice ’ s fourth year in business got underway in 2020 , things were looking good .
“ We were just starting to get some cash flow and make some progress as a business , so it was kind of tough when in mid-March we had to all of a sudden turn everything down for such a long time ,” said Willow Lake Dental ’ s office manager Mark St . Dennis .
The pandemic forced Willow Lake Dental to close for 11 weeks . “ Our lenders gave us three months without any payments , and we were eventually able to get a Paycheck Protection Program ( PPP ) loan , which was very helpful . Once we had the financial side taken care of , then it was about trying to secure all of the Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE ) we could , which was a significant challenge ,” said St . Dennis .
In the beginning , Tracy St . Dennis and members of her staff had to drive all over town to secure the PPE they needed — face masks , gloves , etc . Once they had what they needed , attention turned towards making the office a safe place to return to once the shutdown order was lifted .
Staff returned to the office in May 2020 , and the safety protocols put in place then remain in place today . Everyone in the office wears masks at all times .
“ Fortunately , we were already doing 95 percent of what the new protocols call for before the pandemic , so it didn ’ t take a lot for us to adjust . Mostly we just had to buy stuff ,” said Mark St . Dennis .
Tracy St . Dennis , D . D . S . is a graduate of the U of MN-School of Dentistry . She is in her 13th year of practicing dentistry . Her practice prides itself on having the ability to help people that have same day , emergency dental needs . She is able to provide most of the services needed to relieve patients of their pain ; and most patients do not need a referral to see her .
