Lakeville is a ‘ Plan A ’ Statutory city , with a part-time Mayor and City Council and a full-time Administrator who serves as the Chief Administrative Officer . The City Council functions as the legislative / policy making body . Lakeville provides services to residents through a professional staff committed to providing the highest quality of services in a cost-effective , innovative , and responsible manner .

Lakeville is in Minnesota ’ s 2nd congressional district . The Metropolitan Council is a governmental body responsible for coordinated planning for the sevencounty area . It provides recommendations on regional growth and direction for transportation agencies , regional parks and airport systems that serve the region .
LAKEVILLE POLICE
Founded in 1882 , the dedicated officers of the Police Department have made it their mission to reduce crime , solve problems and ensure the quality of life in Lakeville . Chief Brad Paulson , together with 64 officers of the Police Department
Police Officer of the Year , Scott Frame are proud to serve Lakeville through their Patrol , Investigations , K-9 Units , School Resource Officers , and Crime Scene Unit . Officers also serve on the South Metro SWAT team , Dakota County Drug Task Force , and the Dakota County Electronic Crime Unit . The LPD does more than keep the streets safe . They are actively involved in the community , participating in Toys for Tots ,
the annual First Responder Picnic , Cops & Coats , National Night Out and Shop with a Hero . Follow on social media for fun events throughout the year .
LAKEVILLE FIRE
Founded in 1884 as a volunteer organization with only one station serving the entire village , the Fire Department has grown to four stations and 82 highly trained paid on-call firefighters led by Chief Mike Meyer . A dedicated team
Firefighter of the Year , Stu MacDonald acts in partnership with the community to accomplish its mission that results in mitigation and reduction of loss of life and property due to fire , accidents , or disaster . The Lakeville Fire Department strives to promote community safety and well-being by offering a wide range of services , including emergency medical response , hazardous materials response , technical rescue , fire investigation and public education .
LAKEVILLE PUBLIC SAFETY FOUNDATION
The Lakeville Public Safety Foundation ( LPSF ) is a non-profit organization that promotes public safety by enhancing the capabilities of the Lakeville Police Department and the Lakeville Fire Department . LPSF provides financial assistance for community-based public safety programs , events , processes , and nonessential operational tools through donations from citizens and corporations .
This foundation is run by a group of volunteers in the community and local business owners raising funds through events such as the Police & Firefighters Ball , Firehouse Bingo , Lights & Sirens Golf Tournament , Bourbon & Cigars and more .
